Fabric and materials
Holly and Beau has created environmentally friendly children’s rainwear that uses recycled polyester made from PET plastic bottles.
Unlike virgin polyester, recycled polyester uses PET as the raw material. This is the same material that is used in clear plastic water bottles, creating new clothing fabrics and preventing it from going into landfill.
Impact of plastic on our oceans
Around the world, over one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to five trillion single use plastic bags are used worldwide every year. Half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once. [UN Enviroment.org].
According to the Ocean Conservancy, in less than 10 years, scientists predict there will be 250 million metric tons of plastic in the oceans and by 2050, there will be more plastic than there are fish. This plastic is then consumed by wildlife, not only damaging ecosystems but also harming over 700 species in the ocean, with many eventually also digested by humans.
We believe the future is sustainable, by using 100% recycled polyester for our rainwear items we’re doing our bit to help reduce the amount of plastic going into landfill and our oceans.
Chemicals and dyes
We look for mills who ensure the dyeing process is not damaging or contaminating our earth’s natural resources, where possible opting for natural dyes and inks. All products have been tested to strict trading standards, eliminating the use of lead and other heavy metals, Hazardous substances, Azo dyes, Phthalates and PVC.
We’ve build a strong relationship with our factories ensuring good health and safety for all involved in the manufacturing process of our items. We regularly audit and visit all our suppliers and manufacturers to ensure social and environmental sustainability.
All our packaging is fully recyclable and made from Low-density polyethylene (LDPE). This is a shift away from single-use plastics and will help to enable the conservation of our environment and oceans.
